The weather may be slowing the NPL Northern NSW season. Broadmeadow Magic are not.
With half of Round 14 washed out, the league leaders took another step towards the premiership after a 2-1 victory over Lambton Jaffas extended their advantage at the summit to five points.
Riley Smith opened the scoring before substitute Jarred Baker doubled Broadmeadow's lead. Lambton found a late reply, but the result never looked in doubt as the Magic continued their impressive campaign.
The result was made even more significant given only three matches were completed across the weekend, with wet weather once again wreaking havoc on the competition.
Maitland FC ensured they remained firmly in the finals conversation thanks to a 2-1 victory over Belmont Swansea United.
The fourth-placed hosts overcame the third-placed visitors via goals from James Thompson and Regan Lundy, claiming a valuable three points against one of the competition's form sides.
Golden Boot leader Marco Gueli reduced the deficit in stoppage time, but Belmont left it too late to mount a comeback.
At the other end of the ladder, Adamstown Rosebud boosted their survival hopes with a 2-0 win over Newcastle Olympic.
The result lifted Rosebud into 10th and level on points with Olympic, tightening an increasingly congested battle near the foot of the table.
The remaining three fixtures were postponed due to the persistent wet weather that has disrupted the competition throughout the past fortnight.
