Geelong SC have turned to one of their own to lead their return to VPL2, appointing former Rangers youth product Ross Harvey as head coach for 2027.
Harvey succeeds Darren Duffy after forming part of the coaching team that guided Geelong to the 2026 State League 1 North-West Championship and promotion, ensuring continuity as the club prepare to step back into Victoria’s third tier.
His football journey began considerably further from Geelong. Harvey developed in the youth system of Scottish giants Rangers before his career eventually brought him to Australia and Geelong, where he has since built a long association with the club.
Harvey has represented Geelong as both a player and coach, celebrating championship success in both roles before adding another title to that history as part of the club’s promotion-winning coaching staff in 2026.
Following Duffy’s exit, Geelong have therefore opted against bringing in an entirely new voice for the step up.
Instead, they have entrusted a coach who already knows the squad, the club and what it took to get them back into VPL2.
