NPL NSW doesn’t stay quiet for long.

One week after suffering their first defeat of the season, Sydney United responded exactly how league leaders should; composed, clinical and completely in control.

Their 3-0 derby win over Sydney Olympic never really felt in doubt once Mason Wells broke the deadlock, before Carlos De Oliveira buried the contest with two goals in five second-half minutes.

The response mattered.

Not just because it halted any immediate questions after last week’s loss, but because the pressure doesn’t ease from here. APIA Leichhardt await next.

“It was a good performance, we controlled the game well today and it was good to bounce back from a loss last week,” Sydney United head coach Miro Vlastelica said via NPL NSW.

“Now we move on to a big game next week against APIA.”

Elsewhere, Rockdale Ilinden produced one of the escapes of the season.

Trailing by two goals against Wollongong Wolves, Rockdale somehow clawed their way back before Moudi Najjar struck deep into stoppage time to snatch a dramatic 92nd-minute equaliser in a pulsating 2-2 draw.

But the moment everyone will remember came in Western Sydney.

The Wanderers finally snapped their five-match winless run with a ruthless 4-0 victory over St George FC, though Oscar Morrison’s outrageous long-range strike from deep inside his own half instantly became one of the goals of the season.

It was the type of moment that stops games, crowds and everyone watching.

Sydney FC also made a statement, dismantling 10-man St George City FA 5-0 as Marin France bagged a brace, while NWS Spirit continued quietly building momentum through a 2-1 win over Manly United, highlighted by Aiden Mostofi’s stunning long-range effort.

Reigning champions APIA survived a major scare against SD Raiders before grinding out a chaotic 3-2 victory thanks to an Oscar Gonzalez double.

And then there was Marconi.

Two goals down inside 13 minutes against Sutherland Sharks, the Stallions looked gone early. Instead, they stormed back to win 4-2 in one of the comebacks of the round.

That’s what this weekend felt like.
