Eight years ago, Adam Kostrencic joined Western Knights. He leaves them an NPL club

Western Knights are preparing for a new era after head coach Adam Kostrencic stepped down following eight years at the NPL WA club.

Kostrencic - described as “arguably one of the most successful coaches’ in their history - spent five seasons in charge of the Knights’ first team after initially serving three years as an assistant, overseeing one of the most significant periods in the club’s recent history.

His defining achievement arrived in 2023, when he guided Western Knights to the State League Division One championship and promotion to NPL WA, returning the club to the state’s top flight and beginning a new chapter at Nash Field.

Across the three seasons that followed, Kostrencic helped establish the Knights as a competitive NPL outfit and consolidate their place among Western Australia’s leading clubs.

“Adam has done a sterling job of establishing and securing our position on the field as a highly competitive outfit,” a statement read. “Under his leadership, the First Team has continued to build on the foundations of that historic promotion, earning the respect of opponents and firmly establishing Western Knights SC as a competitive force at NPL level.

“On behalf of the entire Western Knights community — our Board, sponsors, members, players, volunteers and supporters — we sincerely thank Adam for his dedication, commitment, service and passion throughout his time with the club.

“His contribution to Western Knights SC has been significant, and the club is extremely grateful for everything he has given over the past eight years.

We wish Adam all the very best for the future and every success in his future endeavours.

“Thank you, Adam, for everything you have done for Western Knights SC. Once a Knight, always a Knight.”
