Altona City are heading back to the state leagues but not with the coach who took charge in 2026

Altona City will enter life back in the state leagues with a new head coach after parting ways with Chris Greechan.

Greechan’s departure comes after just one season in charge, having taken over ahead of the 2026 VPL2 campaign.

It proved a difficult year for Altona, with relegation sending the club back to State League 1 North-West for 2027 - the fourth tier of Victorian football.

Despite the results, the club praised Greechan’s impact behind the scenes, particularly his work developing young players.

“While results on the pitch didn't reflect the tireless effort put in behind the scenes, his commitment to the development of our young players and his collaborative approach with the board, staff, and volunteers never wavered,” Altona City said.

The club confirmed the two parties had separated amicably and said Greechan would “always be welcome at Altona City SC”.

His departure leaves Altona searching for a new coach to lead the club into a significant 2027 campaign as it attempts to bounce back from relegation.
