He ended Weston’s 31-year wait. Now Damian Zane is going home

After ending one of Northern NSW football’s longest title droughts, Damian Zane has found his next challenge via Edgeworth Eagles.

The NPL NNSW Championship-winning coach has been appointed by Edgeworth Eagles for 2027, marking a return to a club where he previously enjoyed considerable success as both a player and coach.

He had only taken charge ahead of the 2026 season but led the Bears through a memorable campaign which also included a run to the Australia Cup Round of 32 and the Northern NSW Men’s State Cup Final.

His return to Edgeworth brings Zane back to familiar territory. He previously led the Eagles during one of the club’s most successful periods before later working within the Newcastle Jets Academy and continuing his involvement in player development across the region.

Edgeworth will now turn to that experience as they look towards 2027, with the club describing Zane’s appointment as a return “home” to The Nest.

For Zane, the move comes immediately after adding another Championship to his coaching record. His triumph with Weston was his fourth Grand Final victory from six appearances as a coach, and delivered the Bears a trophy they had waited 31 years to celebrate.
