One of the wildest mid-season rebuilds in NPL Victoria continues

Dandenong Thunder's dramatic mid-season rebuild has entered its defining phase in NPL VIC.

After appointing Ilir Qaniu as head coach and announcing the release of 17 players in one of the biggest squad overhauls seen in recent NPL Victoria history, the relegation-threatened club have now unveiled nine new signings tasked with rescuing its season.

Former Avondale FC goalkeeper Lewis Alvarez headlines the arrivals, joined by ex-Melbourne Victory academy striker Edon Ajrovski, Japanese midfielder Kotaro Yamamoto, who arrives from Western Australia, former Bentleigh Greens forward Anthony Lynn, Essendon Royals midfielder Lucas Alessi, defender Favour Akuete, ex-North Sunshine Eagles attacker Sanih Zijai, former Westgate defender Ahmed Elmi and ex-Hume City defender Stephen Sibanda.

The new arrivals complete the latest chapter in what has been an extraordinary few months at George Andrews Reserve.

Thunder parted ways with Adam Piddick in May before confirming club figure Ilir Qaniu as senior coach for the remainder of the season this week. There was the announcement that 17 players had departed, following weeks of speculation surrounding the club as it battled to arrest a difficult campaign.

Now, attention turns from rebuilding to results.

With a new coach in the dugout, a dramatically reshaped squad and nine fresh faces through the door, Dandenong Thunder have made their intentions clear.

Thunder sit 13th in the standings, seven points adrift of safety through 18 rounds.
