Launceston City received 80 applications before the extraordinary return of a coach
Launceston City received more than 80 applications during a nationwide search for their next head coach, only to appoint the man who had recently departed the NPL Tasmania club.
Daniel Syson has made an unexpected return as head coach and senior technical director, taking on an expanded role overseeing the senior football program and academy pathways.
The club had interviewed a shortlist of candidates before Syson expressed interest in returning during the final stages of recruitment.
His experience, connection to Launceston City and commitment to its long-term development ultimately secured his appointment.

For Syson, the decision was also deeply personal.
“This was a decision that took real thought and time,” he said.
“The foundations we've built together, the opportunity to work alongside players and staff over the last few years, and the support shown to me during some tough periods personally all meant a great deal.”
The expanded role will allow Syson to dedicate more time to coaching after previously balancing his football commitments with running a business.
“Previously I was working part-time but operating in what felt like a full-time capacity,” he explained.
“Having more time away from my business to focus on football is the direction I've wanted to go in, and this club has given me that opportunity.”
Syson returns determined to deliver silverware while strengthening Launceston City's academy pathways and developing the next generation of players and coaches.
