Gold Coast United have parted ways with head coach David Provan following a review of the club's performances and results during the 2026 NPL QLD season.
But Thursday’s decision brings an end to Provan's tenure after returning to the club this year, having previously worked within Gold Coast United's NPL program.
In a statement, United acknowledged the difficulty of the decision and paid tribute to Provan's professionalism and commitment throughout his time in charge.
United are flirting with relegation - they are 10th in the 12-team competition and 22 points off the pace.
"Big decisions are rarely easy, particularly when they involve someone held in such high regard by our club," Gold Coast United said.
While results on the field failed to meet expectations, the club praised Provan's dedication to player development and the broader football program.
"Nobody could ever question Dave's dedication to the role or the game," the statement read. "He has worked relentlessly in the best interests of the club, investing countless hours into the development of our players and the growth of the program."
Gold Coast United said a "reset" was required in order to give the NPL Men's program the best opportunity to be competitive moving forward.
The coaching change comes during a difficult campaign for the former A-League club, with results leaving the side short of the standards they had set themselves heading into the season.
Effective immediately, Director of Football Jamie Dixon will assume responsibility for the NPL Men's program in an interim capacity while the club begins the process of identifying a permanent replacement.
Despite the change, Gold Coast United reiterated its commitment to providing a high-performance environment focused on player development, competitive success and the long-term growth of the club.
