Another Socceroo joins Sydney Olympic’s growing Australian Championship arsenal

Sydney Olympic are assembling some serious firepower for the second edition of the Australian Championship.

Former Socceroo Luke Brattan has joined the club for the national competition, adding another major name to an already stacked recruitment drive.

The experienced midfielder and A-League great joins fellow Socceroo Dimitri Petratos, his brother Kosta Petratos and A-League forward Michael Ruhs as Olympic strengthen for their return to the national stage.

Brattan arrives with one of the most decorated resumes in Australian football.

The 36-year-old has played more than 300 A-League matches across spells with Brisbane Roar, Melbourne City, Macarthur FC and Sydney FC, winning multiple Championships and Premierships along the way.

He was also capped by the Socceroos and was on the books of Manchester City earlier in his career following his departure from Brisbane.

His arrival adds considerable experience to a Sydney Olympic squad already boosted by Dimitri Petratos, who returns to Australian football following his latest stint in India.

The three-time Socceroo brings extensive A-League experience of his own, having represented clubs including Brisbane Roar, Newcastle Jets and Western Sydney Wanderers.

He will be joined by younger brother Kosta, who arrives after an impressive NPL NSW campaign with NWS Spirit, while former Central Coast Mariners, Macarthur FC and Western United attacker Michael Ruhs has also signed for the tournament.

For one of Australian football’s historic clubs, the recruitment drive underlines the ambition surrounding the Australian Championship.

And with Brattan now added to a group already containing the Petratos brothers and Ruhs, Sydney Olympic are building a squad with some serious experience for the national stage.
