And breathe. Did Gold Coast Knights pull off the comeback of the season… in Australia?

The 2023 and 2024 NPL QLD champions were staring defeat square in the face on Sunday night, trailing Brisbane Roar B 2-0 entering the 86th minute.

Then, the Knights completely turned the Round 10 match on its head at the Croatian Sports Centre.

With four minutes of regulation time remaining, they pulled a goal back via Joel Russell. A glimmer of hope, but Roar still in the box seat.

Brisbane’s advantage was wiped out in the second minute of stoppage time. Yuto Morita’s volley seemingly rescued a point.

But the hosts were done there. With the last kick of the match, former Newcastle United youngster and Scotland youth interview Brad Inman converted a 96th-minute penalty to complete the wild turnaround.

Extraordinary.

That is back-to-back wins for the Knights, who are fifth in the standings and four points behind league-leading defending champions Moreton City Excelsior.

Excelsior were beaten 2-0 on the road, away to second-placed Lions FC, who moved within one point of top spot.

Alexander Fiechtner’s double fuelled the result.

Josah Hitchcock, Michael McGowan, Niyah Joseph and Ivan Ozzi scored and Peninsula Power crushed Brisbane City 4-1.

It was a statement of intent from the Power, who joined Lions FC on 20 points - only a point off the pace, while Brisbane City are four points back.

Elsewhere, fourth-placed Eastern Suburbs were 2-1 victors at home to Gold Coast United, Zach Maltby’s two-goal performance guided Wynnum Wolves past Magic United 3-1 and Rochedale Rovers saw off Olympic FC by the same scoreline.
