Back-to-back and record breakers: Bayswater rule again

Bayswater City put the finishing touch on another dominant NPL WA campaign, defeating Perth Glory 2-0 to officially seal back-to-back Premierships.

Pat Loughrey opened the scoring before Chris Jackson netted his 16th goal of the season as Matt Sparrow's side finished six points clear at the summit and extended their unbeaten league run to 12 matches.

It is Bayswater's record fifth Premiership of the NPL era, further cementing their status as the competition's most successful club since the league’s inception.

And they're not finished yet. Bayswater now turn their attention to the State Cup Final against Fremantle City, the Top Four Cup and another Australian Championship campaign.

At the other end of the table, Dianella White Eagles produced a huge final-day escape.

Their 2-0 victory over Balcatta Etna lifted the NPL newcomers to safety and condemned Balcatta to relegation, ending their 17-year stay in the top flight.

Armadale dropped into the relegation play-off after a 4-0 loss to Perth RedStar, who secured third place, while Perth Azzurri beat Sorrento 3-1 to grab the final Top Four Cup berth.

Pieter Jacobsz scored twice for Azzurri to finish with 19 goals and claim an extraordinary third consecutive NPL WA Golden Boot.

Fremantle City defeated Olympic Kingsway 1-0 but missed the top four, while Stirling Macedonia rounded out their season with a 3-1 victory over Western Knights.
