Preston mean business as Australian Championship recruitment drive gathers pace

Preston Lions have continued to load up for the Australian Championship, adding Wellington Phoenix defender Dan Edwards and Adelaide United youngster Luka Blazevic to their growing squad.

The double signing follows the arrivals of NPL NNSW standout Marco Gueli and South Sudan international Kur Kur as Preston strengthen ahead of their 2026 Australian Championship campaign.

Edwards arrives with recent A-League experience after spending last season with Wellington Phoenix, where the left-sided defender made his senior debut.

He is also no stranger to the NPL. Edwards made more than 70 NPL VIC appearances for Port Melbourne before joining Avondale FC, where he was part of the club’s 2025 Premiership-winning squad.

Blazevic, meanwhile, arrives at the NPL VIC giants from Adelaide United after spending four seasons within the Reds’ system.

The 20-year-old midfielder began at Adelaide Croatia before progressing through South Australian state teams and into United’s setup, where he featured in the NPL and represented the club at the Otten Innovation U19 Cup in the Netherlands.

Their arrivals make it four notable additions for Preston in quick succession. Gueli, Kur, Edwards and Blazevic will now form part of a strengthened Lions squad as the Victorian powerhouse prepares to enter the Australian Championship.
