Lengthy bans hands down in two tribunal decisions, including an 18-match suspension

Football Victoria's tribunal handed down two significant suspensions following separate disciplinary hearings involving a senior team official and a youth player.

Warrnambool Wolves official Michael Romanes recently received an 18-match suspension after unsuccessfully contesting two red card charges arising from an incident involving a match official.

Romanes was found guilty of entering the field of play to confront a match official, attracting an automatic suspension plus an additional three matches, as well as using threatening or intimidating language and/or conduct towards a match official, an offence carrying a 15-match suspension.

The combined penalties result in Romanes being suspended for 18 matches.

In a separate matter, Eastern Lions Under-18 player Alex Angel received a 10-match suspension after the tribunal found proven a charge of spitting at or on an opponent or another club associate during a Boys Victorian Youth Premier League 1 fixture against Box Hill United on May 17.

After considering witness evidence and cross-examination, the tribunal upheld the charge but declined to increase the mandatory sanction beyond the prescribed penalty.

Angel received the standard punishment of an automatic suspension plus nine additional matches. Football Victoria noted he has already served four matches of the suspension.
