Relegation forced a reset at Altona City. They’ve turned to A-League experience for the rebuild

Altona City have turned to former Western United development coach Nikola Markovski to lead their rebuild following relegation from VPL2.

Markovski has been appointed head coach for 2027, taking over after Altona recently parted ways with Chris Greechan following their demotion from Victoria’s third tier.

The appointment brings professional academy experience to HC Kim Reserve, where Altona City are preparing for life in State League 1.

Markovski previously worked at Western United as an Individual Player Development Coach and Academy Assistant Coach, contributing to the development of players and programs within the A-League club’s setup.

He has also worked with Lalor United Sloga, where Altona highlighted his contribution both on and off the pitch, particularly his work developing players and helping build the club’s football environment.

Altona believe Markovski’s background in player development, combined with his coaching experience in Victorian football, makes him the right figure to oversee the next phase of their senior program.
