It is a new era for Olympic Kingsway after the NPL WA club made a “difficult” decision and appointed former Socceroo Richard Garcia as interim head coach until the end of the season.

Olympic technical director Garcia will be on the sidelines for the remainder of 2026 following the surprise departure of head coach David Tough and assistant Ross Edwards following five trophy-laden years - headlined by five trophies, including the treble in 2024 and consecutive Australia Cup Round-of-16 berths.

Olympic Kingsway dismissed both coaches after “reviewing the current situation”, despite the team sitting third in the table and just three points off top spot through nine rounds.

“The club decided a change in direction is required,” a statement read. “Both David and Ross have made a significant contribution to the club, winning five trophies including the treble in 2024.

“The club have also reached the final 16 of the Australia Cup in the past two years, highlighted by the memorable win against Melbourne Victory.

“We wish David and Ross the very best, their achievements with Olympic are etched in our history.”

Former West Ham and Hull City midfielder Garcia previously coached Perth Glory in the A-League.

The 44-year-old retired Australia international will be in charge when Olympic travel to Fremantle City on Saturday.
